I love my body (most of the time)

Sometimes when I look in the mirror I don’t always like what I see. Sometimes my jeans are too tight, sometimes my thighs jiggle too much, sometimes I just feel downright ugly. So I try to change that, I try to lose weight or cover my flaws up with makeup and all I ever hear is people telling me about how I’m perfect the way I am and about self love and body love, but what if I just don’t like what I see sometimes. Is it a crime to try and change the way I look to please MYSELF. Don’t get me wrong, I really do love myself and my body for the most part and I hardly ever care about what other people think of me but I do care a lot about what I think of myself. I want to always like what I see when I look at myself. So sometimes I will eat a little less than I normally do, sometimes I’ll go to the gym, sometimes I’ll put on some extra makeup, and I’ll wear clothes that I think make me look better, and I don’t think that this is a bad thing, I don’t think I should be looked down on because of the way I actually see myself. I look at my self in the mirror sometimes and I smile because I like what I see but there are days when I don’t and I honestly don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I have flaws and sometimes I acknowledge them and leave them alone other times I acknowledge them and get rid of them. I understand how important it is to love myself the way I am but sometimes I think I’d be better if I lost some weight or had better skin and I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

  1. This was excellent post and I agree with what you have said. I do have those days too when I feel beautiful and others when I notice my flaws and wish I had better features. I believe this is healthy to some extent because it is good to realize our flaws and accept ourselves for what we are. However it becomes a problem when one starts comparing themselves to what is perceived as a beautiful person. We have been sold this image of a beautiful person but no one knows beauty itself and while one may find faults with themselves they could in fact be beauty itself. This image of what a beautiful person looks like is just a commercialized imagine aimed at getting people to buy things to help them achieve this “ideal beauty” which is unknown. No one is ugly because no one knows what beauty itself

  2. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting to be happy with your body, and I think it’s great that the things you do for your body are for YOU and not for anyone else. In looking at my own body, I find it hard not to consider how it looks to other people. Sometimes I put on makeup for myself, but I have to admit that sometimes i do it for other people. The media is constantly bombarding us with messages of impressing the opposite sex: Men have to wear this deodorant to impress a woman and women have to buy this mascara to look attractive to a man. And I think this message is sent much more heavily to women. We are expected to “work on” our bodies for men, not for ourselves. However, it’s much more important for you to be happy and comfortable with your body than someone else. That’s something I lose sight of from time to time and it’s awesome that you are focused on your own satisfaction with your body.
