American Horror Story: Freak Show

I absolutely love these interviews that American Horror Story is putting out on YouTube. It definitely gives us a perspective on how those with unique bodies, view their own bodies, and learn to accept their own bodies.

  1. So I’ve never actually seen this show but based on theses videos, I might have to go back and watch from the beginning. My question is about Amazon Eve. Is her focus in the show being transgender or is it just hear height as a woman? In the clip she focuses more on her issues being transgender and how she came to accept herself for who she has become. I found this the most interesting part because I’ve never thought of being transgender as being a freak. I wouldn’t expect to go to a “freak show” and there is a headliner for the ‘Amazing Transgender Woman’ or that being 23 inches, or lacking limbs could be comparable to being transgender. Now I assume her being in a freak show is attributed more to her Amazon qualities but the video is a little confusing as to what her role actually is.

  2. The fact that you posted these videos is amazing! I love American Horror Stories. Throughout watching these videos, I couldn’t stop thinking to myself how wonderful it is for these people to feel so comfortable in their bodies. They see it as just being “different” and being different isn’t a bad thing. It made me wonder how long it actually toke them to come to this realization. Still now, I often struggle with being okay with my body. I also never thought of being transgendered as being a freak (just like bboyd3 stated). I guess anything that isn’t in societies “norm” would be considered such.
