Cartesian Dualism and…..Emotions?

Their are always opinions and let me just make my opinion clear. I believe that emotions and your spirit are one. People who have good emotional health are aware of their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. They have learned healthy ways to cope with the stress and problems that are a normal part of life. They feel good about themselves and have healthy relationships. When we are sick we tend to feel disconnected with out bodies. Many things that happen in your life can disrupt your emotional health and lead to strong feelings of sadness, stress or anxiety.Poor emotional health can weaken your body’s immune system, making you more likely to get colds and other infections during emotionally difficult times. Also, when you are feeling stressed, anxious or upset, you may not take care of your health as well as you should.

So…..where does Cartesian Dualism come in?…

Well, on emphasizing personal unity, our bodies are not the prison of the soul, to be escaped by death. Even in the eternal state, we will enjoy a resurrected body. Further, an emphasis on getting souls into heaven when they die can be misconstrued to imply that the body really doesn’t matter. Yet, the conformity of our lives to Christ’s is to be worked on in the midst of this physical life. The believer’s body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. So, the body matters to God and should to us. So in order to achieve this for those who believe must have emotional balance to become one.
