Scars. We all have them. However, the stories behind them are all incredibly different. How, when, where are all questions we can answer about them. Recalling those stories can take you back in time so easily through a glance. Scars are a part of who you are, no matter how small or large or where they are on your body. My favorite scars are on my right hand in between my thumb and index finger. I have three, pretty small scars (Yes, they are SMALL!). Because they are on my hand, I get to look at them just about every day. Sometimes I smile, sometimes I get angry and sometimes I get sad. These scars are from a car accident.
They are my only physical proof of what my body endured in the chaos. Most of the time when I look at them, I feel grateful for my life and that I do only have 3 small scars. Other times, I stare and go back in time, attempting to relive my experience, however wrong that may be. They are my battle wounds with powerful meaning embedded in the 3 tiny scars. They are a part of me just as the accident is a part of me too. I will never be ashamed of them.

This blog post is really cool because it speaks to the “unremarkable” scar. Sometimes the most impactful events don’t leave a proportionate memento. Sometimes the meaning of a scar is not obvious at all in the way it looks. Thank you for sharing this
I really enjoyed this post because it really connected with me. When i finished reading your post I literally began to look at some of my most memorable scars on my body. It’s amazing how loud each and every one of our scars speak. I loved your comment about how although they are on you for the rest of your life as proof of a traumatizing experience, they still make you unbelievably grateful for your life. I never really thought about it in that way, Thanks!
I wrote a very similar post regarding scars and what they mean to me about a life well lived and travelled hard with abandon. Nice to find a kindred spirit online.
