What happens when two people with Anxiety high five and one of them is wearing a stone ring meant to help alleviate anxiety attacks?
What happens is that the ring, a solid stone of Hematite, broke clean in half. This is not just a joke, this is an actual happening for me and a friend of mine. Anxiety is very much Fight or Flight in Overdrive, causing the body and mind to react like things are far more dire than they truly are.
Now, there is a rather large difference between Anxiety and being anxious. Anxiety is a mental illness, something which can only be treated with medical intervention and impacts the person’s life in a generally negative way. Being anxious just means that you are nervous and scared but it will go away on it’s own.
Some may not know they have Anxiety until they spend time with other people who do and find out that these things they are feeling are not “normal”, that not everyone has issues with being late and thinking bad about it, nor have the fear of being late in general. Other examples exist, but the mind wanders.
There are things which can help that are less medical and more New Age, such as Hematite and Onyx, as well as meditation. These are believed helpers, but there is no cure, as they really isn’t a cure for any mental illness. just ways of managing it.
Mental illnesses are scary to most people, but unlike the news, they are mostly true and usually not the cause of murders. Most people said to have some sort of mental illness by the news is simply a vehicle to demonize people like me.
Don’t demonize the poor mentally ill. Support and care for us, for we are people too.
I too battle with an anxiety disorder. It wasn’t until my senior year in high school that I asked my parents for help and proceeded to see a doctor about anxiety medication. I felt like a failure, an irrational fear of being “crazy.” I realized that anxiety isn’t something that just goes away and medication doesn’t solve all of your problems. Self-help along with the aid of medication has changed my life, but it’s definitely something I will always battle with.
