I’m sitting here in New York on my mothers couch contemplating my third blog post. It’s been a few days since I’ve shaved my legs, who cares…right?
My mother just looked over at me, laughed, and said, “Write about your hairy legs and how it gives your mother anxiety that you haven’t shaved them.” She’s joking, of course. But it got me thinking about body hair again. My mother and her partner and now sitting around the table in the kitchen discussing the trend in body hair among my generation. “Yeah, isn’t it popular for women to not shave their armpits now?”
I don’t think it has anything to do with trends. I just haven’t shaved my legs in a couple of days out of laziness, nor do I shave because I feel like I have to. It’s not because society tells me that women should be hairless, I just enjoy the feeling of smooth legs and armpits. But what’s comical about women with hairy armpits and legs? Nothing. Who gives a shit? It’s just hair. Actually, I kinda like my hairy legs these days. Let your hair grow, ladies.
Laziness is one of the best reasons not to shave 🙂
I am having fun contrasting your mom’s attitude toward shaving with my mom’s attitude toward it (I wrote about shaving, too). It’s so interesting how we have our own preferences, and where we maybe get our preferences from.
The weather is getting cold, another reason to not shave the legs…right?
