Now and days, I have been thinking about being more political aware and like any curious person I decided reading The Washington Post would be a good place to start (only online, of course). Scrolling through, I see an article about my hometown and other areas I know. The article is about how Hispanic students are now the majority in Montgomery County Public Schools, something that would have never been thought of years ago. I was actually very excited to hear about this because I, as a Hispanic person, I have been in the Hispanic community in my home county and think it is beautiful. My feelings changed when I started reading the comments, people were saying that Hispanic were going to destroy property values, suck the school system’s resources, and assuming that they were all in the United States undocumented. How is this someone’s first reaction?
Some how individuals have been able to put this idea on a whole group of people, have put meanings on their skin, their language, and their culture. The thing that very much upset me was that it was assumed that these students were in the country undocumented and spoke like their whole purpose for being was to take what they believe to be “their” resources. These bodies that you assume crossed over an made up line somewhere on earth, are not being viewed as people.
These online trolls are telling people that because your ancestors come from this part of the earth, that you are not allowed to be in “mine” part of earth. It is crazy to me that the Hispanic community is now growing in the Montgomery County and there is still this idea. This group of people are becoming visibly and growing into positions of power but there will always be people trying to keep them down. Their bodies hold different meanings.
Unruly Bodies 
I find it really interesting that you chose a reading that is so close to home. This is a good way to give us a reality check that these things in our community and culture are not far from home and unfortunately may still be here for a while in the real world and through the virtual world via online trolls. I also think that the ending of your blog was really strong. “Their bodies hold different meanings.” This is absolutely true
As a person of color to another I totally connected to this one. Coming from a race where they depend on you to be good at sports more than academics is irritating. I went to school in Baltimore City . I Went to Baltimore Polytechnic Institute . What Baltimore considers ” the smart kids”. A place where a lot of Hispanics thrive! Hell I even copied a few of their papers ( with their permission of course). All I can say is keep encouraging the kids in your community. The haters in the comments are probably terrified of what would happen if there was a MOB of intelligent Hispanics. Tell them stay mad. Be great . Stay woke!
I really like your quote that “bodies hold different meanings.” That’s essentially the core of this class and the idea of stolen resources. This is all relevant to the current election and its results in the United States.
