what I’m NOT thankful for

I’m not thankful for all the lives that had to be raped, diseased spread and killed for this country to be present.

I’m not thankful for the cultures and traditions that have been wiped out so that it be exchanged with sports and consuming dead animals.

i’m not thankful for all the wars we’ve created because of greed and fear from white supremacy.

I’m not thankful to be human sometimes.

I’m not thankful that i have to shut up so i can let people live comfortably and not ethically.

I’m not thankful for all the marginalized people have to be marginalized.

I’m not thankful for specieism.

I’m not thankful for a gap in peoples conscience.

I’m not thankful for time.

I’m not thankful for the sun that burns my skin and dries my lips  because we’ve killed the ozone layer.

I’m not thankful for all man made constructions

But I’m thankful I’m thankful for living this life.

(As a spiritual person I’m giving thanks for my life everyday, but there deserves a space where i can express what I’m not thankful FOR in life… (you know, duality also a gemini). It’s okay to pessimistic sometimes and feel hopeless of humanity but I’ve came to a conclusion that humans are like sheep we like to follow the crowd and that if are following beliefs and ideologies that don’t just benefit us but other species we could live in much less harm)

DON’T BE A FOLLOWER BE A LEADER !!!

  1. I really enjoyed reading your blog. I love the poetic set up that you began every sentence with “I’m not thankful” or “I’m thankful”. I could feel the emotions and anguish with everything that you listed.
I also think that the timing of this post is ironic because tomorrow is Thanksgiving, which we all know is a holiday that loved ones come together to be thankful of the good things in our lives. The world is not always a happy place, and I think that Thanksgiving is a day that people want to be blissful and forget about all the negativity and just enjoy food and loved ones.
I just know that I am very blessed to have a roof above my head and a family that loves me. It hurts to think that there are so many people in the world who do not have that.

  2. I like your piece because you’re specific about what you’re unhappy about, and the way you’re unhappy reminds me of a person standing on a hilltop screaming at the top of their lungs. Directed at the world as a whole and not pointing the finger of blame at one person.

  3. I love the poetry style in this blog. This thanksgiving might not be a very thankful one for a lot of people. There are too many things going on in the world right now and sometimes it’s okay to just express everything that you’re feeling inside. We are often told to just be thankful for being alive, but what if being alive isn’t enough to be thankful for. I like the line were you said “I am not thankful for time.” Me either. I’ve been hating time lately. Sometimes I want it to go faster, sometimes slower, sometimes at a steady pace. Time has been socially constructed by humans and therefore it becomes difficult to accommodate it for oneself.
