Love.
Love can be defined in many ways. Love is what brings people together. Love is what makes the world go round and round. Without love we will all be lost, and it will become a deadly place. Love is wanting the best for them, even though you gave them the best of you and they thought it wasn’t enough. Love is making time for them even though your schedule is busy. Love is ordering extra fries because you know they will get hungry later. Love isn’t always easy, sometimes it can be hard. Love is always seeing the good in them, even though it’s hurting you in the end. Love is when you feel the butterflies in your stomach when you speak to them. Love is when you are willing to put yourself through hell because you know they’re worth it. Love is complex. Love can be full of mixed emotions and beliefs. We always hear songs about love but love is hard to explain sometimes. Someone told me that “it is better to lose your pride with someone you love, rather than to lose that someone you love with your useless pride”. Love is sacrifice. Love is giving your all no matter what. Love is when your head over heels for someone or something. My friend Ryan said “Love is trust. Most importantly love is an unmovable force that is completely unmatched. ” Love can sometimes drive you crazy, but it also can make you the happiest you’ve ever been. No matter how much you try to deny love, you can’t. It’s the most uncontrollable and unpredictable emotion.
When people first think of love they tend to think about having a significant other, but that isn’t always the case. Love is a type of feeling that you have when you absolutely care for a person and you can’t live without them. My friend Katrina said ” love is very powerful, and it sometimes gets a bad reputation because of how many heartbreaks that revolve around it such as being in relationships as well as having friendships. Love is very complex, and it can’t be described as just as one thing. You feel lots of emotions when you love all good and bad. In the end love conquers all and the world could not function without it”. Love can mean different things to everyone. Love doesn’t always have to mean relationships and friendships. You have to learn how to love yourself before you can love someone else. Loving yourself is always the best resolution. Never cut yourself short just because it’s available.

I posted on my snapchat asking people what love means to them and here are a few things of what they said about love:
Caz said “Love means being selfless towards others because you genuinely care.”
Zach said ” Love is trust, love isn’t anything without trust.”
Cameron said “Love is mutual. Love is the strongest thing in the world.”
Cydney said “Love is when someone meets all of my needs with all that, it entails. If I talk about love i’ll cry because I thought I experienced love and it was not love. It was control and abuse. It was so toxic and dangerous I ended up in the hospital twice. So love to me, what I experienced, is different than what love truly is.”
Carrington Said ” Love to me is the connection to something or someone that you can’t go without. I see love as an addiction almost. It has as many rose petals as it also has thorns.”
Michael said ” Love is the ability to grow together especially during the bad times.”
Ishan said ” Love can be expressed in many ways but it essence and it is having a deep and caring relationship with another person.”
Abby said “Love to me means being able to trust them and have their support in decisions I make. I also think love is when I don’t have to constantly worry about what that person thinks of me/ if they are judging me, and not being anxious about what I say to them. I haven’t been in a romantic relationship, so I guess this is more of my opinion of love in friendships.”
Kejin said ” Love means you care about a person unconditionally with your heart and soul and the love never fades no matter what happens.”
Lisa said ” Love is more actions than words. The way someone treats you, cares for you. But I mean it comes in different forms for different people. So like gifts, physical touch, affirmative words. But overall it’s just when someone takes time out of their life to check up on you.”
Brian said “Love is shown through action instead of words. Putting someones else’s feelings, thoughts, and needs before your own-is love. unconditional love is unlimited, unquestioning, and unwavering affection for someone else despite of what their actions may be.”
Gavin said ” Love is doing whatever is best for that person even if it means leaving them.”
Rachel said “Love to most people is a feeling but I like to think of love as an action to make it more applicable to all types of relationships. Love is the will to put others needs before your own, not because you have to but because you care and want to.”
Jackson said “Love is when you stop thinking about yourself. When you do something for someone else. Just for their betterment not for your own selfish needs of wanting to talk or see someone. Love is when you still get butterflies when you think about that girl. Love is listening and getting a gift that they are expecting but it is something they actually need.”
Johnny Said “Love sucks.”
Dr. Depriest said ” Love is showing up, literally and emotionally. Figuring out and offering support in the way the person you love will best receive it and appreciate it (rather than just giving them what you want to give or think they need).”
Colin said ” Love to me is a choice. It’s the choice to put someone’s wants and needs above others.”
Cole said “Love is happiness is suppose?”
Diego said ” Love to me is when the person i’m with make me feel like i’m at home.”
Noah said ” Love is finding ways to make someone happy by doing things for that special someone and not just for yourself.”
Bryce said ” Love is hard, and complex but we can’t run from it.”
Tayler said ” Love is when you help each other grow. Love can have its ups and downs but you keep holding on to it because that thing or that person brings you happiness.”
Tyler said “Love is happiness I guess?!”
Jericho said ” Love is the everlasting fire between two people, it keeps on going depending on who wants the fire to last. Love is so beautiful but yet destructive.”
Darius said “Love is so many different things but love means consistency and is nonjudgmental. I wish I could give you a better answer but me and love don’t work well .”
Tav said ” Love is Acceptance. Accepting flaws, accepting differences and accepting self.”
Tye said “Love to me is my Mom.”
Robbie said ” I don’t really know. I guess love is caring about the person and always wanting the best for them with a sense of empathy and compassion. Basically wanting them to do as good as you want yourself to do.”
Anjali said ” Love is comfort and familiarity.”
Trinity said ” Love to me is when you love someone more than you love yourself.”
Dan said “Love is to care for someone deeply despite their flaws.”

Love………..
Love is hard to explain because it’s a subject that people may have different opinions on based on where they’re at in life. Like saying “I Love You” to someone can mean so much to someone but it can also have different meanings. For example the song “8 letters” by the artist Why Don’t We said, “If all it is, is eight letters, why is it so hard to say? Why am I in my own way? Why do I pull you close and then ask you for space? if all it is, is eight letters why is it so hard to say?” Saying I love you to someone can have a bigger meaning than what people may think. Love can have its ups and downs but no matter what happens, you always hold on to love because it brings you happiness and joy. Love is what keeps us sane. Love is fragile and sometimes we’re not always the best care takers. We just muddle through and do the best that we can, and we hope that this fragile thing survives, against all odds.
So what does love mean to you?

Your post is amazing! I one hundred agree with the statement that most people automatically jump straight to romantic love. But as you noted that is only a very tiny fraction of love out there. I hate to get dark but love is not always good. I believe Cydney’s response pointed out the messed up side of love. Most people would define love as automatically good. But love can be twisted, be used as a weapon, abusive, and obsessive. However in that case is it still love? Cydney said it wasn’t really love. However, some people still love others despite their dark side. Take addicts for example. Family members and friends might be forced to cut off contact for personal safety and the safety of other family members. But that love might always be faintly there. Moving on to something lighter I also enjoy reading everyone’s ideas of what love is. It was so interesting to see how people define something so important to so many people yet is so hard to describe. For me, I can’t define romantic love. But I would say love overall is about knowing you are never alone and vice versa. Love is protecting and being protected by those by who you care for.
I really enjoyed your post! Thank you for sharing it <3. I definitely agree that love exists in many forms and appreciate that your asked your friends their thoughts of love – that, to me, really shed a light on the vast spectrum of what can be defined as "love". For me personally, love is community, showing up for one another, and at the very core, love is the embodiment of acceptance + celebration of others.
I think it’s really cool how you asked many different people about what love means to them, it was awesome to read! To me, the meaning of life is to love each other. It took me a long time to come to that conclusion, but that’s my philosophy on life. I’m not religious and I don’t believe in any kind of divine plan, so it’s easy for me to get existential and wonder why any of us are even here. I’ve come to the realization that life is hard for everyone, and suffering is universal. So I think the best we can do is try to make life easier for each other, through love. The love I have for the people in my life is what motivates me, inspires me to be the best version of myself, and is what keeps me grounded.
