Are women or men better?

What does it mean to act like a woman? Back in the day to meant to be a housewife, a mother, and never to speak up. While many people still believe these things, I think they are stupid and should never be brought up. It is very offensive to be called a girly girl with no definition. Just because I wear makeup or where women’s clothing does not mean I am a girly girl and can not do the same thing as women. I am a big fan of Harry’s style, not for his music but for his faction choices and how he has broken the rules of clothing differences between women and men. It is just not fair for someone to say that women should be here to be pretty. The other day I went to a conference with my dad, and it was a petroleum c store convention, a male-dominated industry. And I saw women dressed in tight revealing clothing passing out business cards.

Also, no vendor was willing to talk to me about a business venture or selling their product in my dad’s stores. I would have to make the first move and break the ice, but everyone would want to talk to my brother. This was just shocking to see how women are perceived as just the pretty thing to the side. As a woman who wanted her company, this was very offensive to see how my gender was perceived by an industry run by many old white and Indian males. Women run a gas station or a hotel just as efficiently as men. I think women can run a business just as well as males; I believe there is no difference in intellectual properties. There is no objective evidence that males are better than women! Women and males act the same. They have the same resources to be successful.

  1. I agree with you. The soceity has given certain careers to certain genders, for example, it is hard to find a male nurse just like it is hard to find a female changing tire. All genders are equally capable of doing all the tasks similarly, but some tasks might be too “girly” for a man or too “manly” for a woman. Such concepts stop so many from having a freedom in terms of what they want to do with their career. But what makes a job too girly or too manly?

  2. I agree with this. People still have the mindset that women are just made as housewives and can’t do anything else. Times have changed as barriers have been broken to get to the future we wanted which was everyone being equal and not being treated differently solely based off of gender.

  3. Along with everyone else so far I also agree with your statements, it is not right that women are seen as “just a pretty thing to look at.” It is also not right that no one would speak to you just unless you spoke to them first and I 100% do think that it is because you are a women, as philosopher John S. Mill said and I don’t know if this is the exact quote but “the generality of the male sex cannot yet tolerate the idea of an equal” So men see women as this fagile thing that possibly cannot in your case talk business so they talk to your brother instead.

  4. I agree with this so much. Especially growing up in an Asian household I was taught to take care of the cleaning and food instead of my brothers Since it would help me find a husband. Why is that the case, men have to learn how to make food and clean too, so why am I the only one doing it….

  5. Even in my own household, I (a woman) face misogyny constantly. My mom went out of the country for one week this past month and although I live on campus, I went home every day to cook dinner. On top of this I was taking 18 credits, two internships, one job, and leadership positions in clubs. I couldn’t come home one day so I apologized to my dad and he replied with “What will we eat for dinner?”. I felt so much guilt. As theharaampolice stated, times have changed and women must be fiercely confident in their choices. They must put themselves first and know their worth to be degraded in any way. I highly recommend finding a support system and joining women empowered business groups. I wish you all the best when you start and own your own company.

  6. From my experience, gender discrimination is most prevalent in older, more conventional generations, such as our parents. I’m always told that I have to grow up to be a housewife and good mother even though I’ve made it clear to my parents that I would like to have a full-time career outside of the home. My parents also shame me for not wearing dresses “like all other girls do”. Younger generations have become more open minded am I hope that we can break free from traditional gender stereotypes.

  7. I agree with you that men and women are just as capable as each other to do any certain task. The only reason that more men do things considered manly and more women do things considered feminine is that we are taught from a young age to do these things. Any person should be able to feel like they have the ability to do what they want to do without outside influences telling them that they can’t because of who they are.
