Full-time Student and Employee

I can’t wait to go back to bed tonight is the first thing I think of when I wake up every morning at 5am.

How I feel every second of my life

My current schedule is to go to work Monday-Thursday 6:00am-11:30am and then school anywhere from 1pm-9pm depending on the day and what classes I have (I drive to school straight from work). On Fridays, I only have work which is my 12-hour shift (6am-6pm). I feel that between work and class I barely have time to do homework or study because by the time I get home it’s either late or I’m extremely exhausted. The only time I have to do schoolwork is on the weekends, but by then I just want a moment to myself where I can fully feel like myself because I’m not hiding my feelings to be “socially acceptable”. Which, in itself is a whole another reason for being exhausted. Or by the time the weekend comes I’m already overbooked with plans that I don’t even want to do. It’s nice to imagine how less stressful life would be, and how much easier classes would be; due to having time to do them. I am constantly worried that I’m not going to be able to afford this month’s bills. Often, I will only eat once or twice a day and the meals are mainly portioned-sized because I either have no time to eat or do not have enough money to get something full-sized. This leads me to be very irritable a lot of the time and malnourished. Not to mention my legs, feet, and back are worn out by the end of every day due to all the standing and walking I must do. It feels as though my bones hurt at times. I feel like I am working my life away between school and work. Then I see those who do not have to work while in school, and I envy them. Sometimes, I wish that God had made me born into a wealthy family so I wouldn’t have to work and pay for everything myself. Sometimes, I think God must hate me because of the way he made me and my life. When looking at others around me, it seems he spent so much time on them but got lazy with me. I mean life is unfair, and if God is real why does he make it so.

At end of the day, I feel that I’m just dramatic and I will get through this soon enough. It’s only a period in my life and not the rest of it. That’s if I don’t have any long-lasting effects from all this laboring on my body…

  1. This is me also in some ways. I am a part-time employee and full-time student. I work from 7am-12pm everyday and then I go to class. I only get like 5 hours of sleep which is bad. I take 6 classes as well so I have a lot of homework to do while working on top of that.

  2. Firstly, I am so sorry. You’re extremely hardworking and determined and I hope you’re able to find time for yourself to unwind soon. Secondly, I understand the feeling of working your life away between school and work as I am a working student as well. It’s really unfair that this is the reality and that this kind of overwork is so normalized in our society; I know so many friends who are in the same position as you. As well as the fact that so many hours will be worked for so little pay.
