TW: Rape culture
When Sexyy Red’s sex tape was leaked, to say I was disgusted with the response of the internet is an understatement. Sexyy Red is a female rapper whose lyrics and social media usually center around topics of sex and have a sexual nature. Now to me, this is not outlandish, women have been making sexual music for forever.; Men AND women have made sexual music for forever.
When a video of Sexyy Red having sex with a partner was leaked, WITHOUT HER CONSENT, the comments and reactions from the internet were absolutely disgusting. Comments were made about her body and her “performance” in the video. I wasn’t surprised at the fact that comments like this were made, I was surprised and taken aback at the way these comments were made as if she deserved to have a video of her having sex released, without her consent, because she makes sexual music. I was also taken aback by people on the internet feeling entitled to make crude comments about her body and what she decides to do with her sexual partners. Specifically, people were referring to the lyrics in Sexyy Red’s Poundtown “My coochie pink, My bootyhole brown” to make comments about how she was lying about the color of her genitalia when obviously we all know what she was talking about.
These are the kinds of incidents that continue to perpetuate rape culture. A man leaks a video of him having sexual intercourse with a popular female rapper without her consent and because there is this hate towards women, especially black women, she is offered no protection and he is not condemned for his actions. In fact, he is encouraged because she “deserves” for that to happen to her because she portrays herself as sexual in her music.; The classic “what did she do to deserve it?” *insert eye roll*
Though I am not surprised at something like this happening, it is still exhausting seeing misogyny/misogynoir operate clearly. It is a reminder of how much work really needs to be done on so many levels and scales to uproot, challenge, and dismantle misogyny/misogynoir.
Unruly Bodies 
I had no clue about this leak but I feel so sorry for her, consent is such an important thing and the fact that it was posted without hers is so unacceptable. the media is so unfiltered and can be cruel.
This is absolutely crazy and even if it wasn’t a popular artist, in general having something super private being leaked and people commenting is obscene. I can’t fathom how she must feel and its crazy that even people who know her and listen to her music comment the things that they did. Truly appalled.
I think I remember hearing something about that on the internet. If I’m not mistaken I think I remember someone making a TikTok with that song as the audio and then shaking their head as an indication of “no” when the song got to the part of describing her genitalia. At first I didn’t understand it but after reading your blog it makes more sense. I hate that this kind of thing happens and how for some reason women are punished yet men aren’t being held accountable. I can remember this kind of thing happening in middle-school but instead of famous adults, it’ll be with kids who were my age. Girls will send nudes and then it’ll be leaked to almost all the boys etc. She’ll get made fun of in the hallways and posted on social media ugly comments about her body would be made. Yet no one (at least the majority of people) would focus their anger on the idiot boy who thought it would be funny to do such a thing. Either people make fun of the girl or feel bad for her. No one is cussing out the guy as far from what I have seen.
I completely agree with this statement. My reaction was the same when I saw alll the comments people made about her after the tape was released, nonconsensually. I think it is quite sad that people just completely skipped over the fact that she did not even post that video herself. It was not even supposed to be out there for public viewing, yet people felt the need to nit pick everything about her appearance after viewing it. I cannot imagine the mental strain she must’ve dealt with after finding out the tape was leaked on top of the negative comments about her body.
