So, Politico did a thing…

Yes, thousands of people have already died and thousands more are at risk. The crisis is expected to get much worse before it will get better, but oh, won’t somebody think of the chocolate?

Oh, but wait, it gets better (not really). You see, not only are many of the people who are harvesting these cocoa beans already slaves (many of whom are children, mind you), but now they have to worry about the Ebola crisis affecting them as well. Here, we have human trafficking, slavery, and child labor which is largely going being ignored because we’d rather concern ourselves with how we in the First World will be “compromised”? This is a particular brand of Liberalism I want absolutely nothing to do with. The livelihood and safety of human beings will always be paramount to a product.

And let me just get this out of the way before anybody says it:

Perhaps I’m too idealistic, but I feel as though this is a very limiting and depressing way to look at the world. Now, I’m not absolving myself of any participation in unethical consumption by any means, but I think it would behoove us a people to do a little more research and think a little more critically about how we spend our money.
