Each of our bodies is a spectacular part of our being. Many of them are disabled, hurt, pained and self-conscious, yet they are still unique and something to be proud of. Many posts have spoken to personal body accounts, whether good or bad. I’d like to challenge myself (and other women) to be proud of our bodies. No matter what the circumstances, our bodies are ours. We should embrace their differences.
Personally, my body has been through countless experiences, leaving me with visible and invisible scars. Basically, I have some wear and tear; we all do. I have struggled (and do) struggle with mental illness, but who doesn’t?! All of the discussions of our bodies has left me wanting to feel empowered and proud of my body. It may not be ‘perfect’ to everyone’s standards, but to ME it is. Each of us are beautiful because beauty is not one image. It is difficult in today’s society to embrace a non-normative body, I won’t ignore that. However, it is time to change that image to represent all bodies and all experiences.
Amen! Love this 🙂
Hell yeah, ladies! Let’s love our bodies. I don’t know when things finally clicked in my brain and when I started loving my body but now that I do I feel a sense of relief. I guess I just realized that I only have one shot with this body and I shouldn’t take it for granted. Thank you for sharing!
hello your post is short and straight to the point. Loving who you are is all about loving self which includes loving the body you are in. It is so true about being created beautifully. we come in all sizes and shape and that’s what makes us beautiful.Just think how boring the world would be if we all looked the same. thanks for sharing hope others would wake up and love themselves. You are beautiful and wonderfully made .
Preach!
I like to love myself out of spite. Yeah, I’m flabby, have stretch marks, and scars and body acne and hair and countless other “flaws”, and “they” would love to see me sad about it. But my experiences have shaped me as a whole person, inside and out, and I have found that who that person is is fucking awesome, inside and out. I won’t let anyone tell me I should hate myself. I won’t let my past, the people who hurt me, or even the memory of who I used to be, hold me down. They say, “the best revenge is living well”, and some of the stuff we’ve been learning about subversion ties into all this, I think. We subvert the norm when we decide to love ourselves anyway, and I think that’s so beautiful.
Yup! I can agree with you completely. We all have to embrace who we are, what we have done, and what we strive to be. Unfortunately there is a lot more negativity toward one’s inner self rather than positive self love directed toward us in society, but this is directly connected to consumerism, as we have discussed in class. If we can all break through that negative mold and start loving ourselves truly, then we have won. truly amazing. Once again, awesome post.
I love how easily you have expressed something so important for everyone to understand. I’m all about body empowerment, and I support the whole no body shaming movement. Everyone, not just women, should understand that it is sooooo so important to love yourself and your body. Thank you for reminding me, and other readers, how important it is to empower others to feel comfortable in their own skin.
