There you have it folks!
Not only is Donald Trump a bigot, but now he is also a sexual assailant.
Interestingly, Donald Trump promoting rape culture with “Grab em’ by the Pussy” was enough for the women voting for him to draw the line but not when he was spreading hate?
Did his women supporters just have an epiphany one day and think
❓❓❓
Lucia Perez, 16, who died earlier this month in Argentina after being subjected to extreme sexual violence and “The Donald” brought me back to the topic of rape culture. Sexual assault and rape can have an intense effect on those who fall victims to these crimes. Sexual assault and rape have mental, physical, and emotional effects on its survivors. Many have a difficult time healing and developing coping mechanisms.
Coping with the effects of a sexual assault or rape can be overwhelming. Most times survivors turn to substance abuse such as drugs and alcohol just to death. In other instances, due to the taking away of control and sense of security survivors turn to hurting themselves just to deal. In both cases, the survivors just end up hurting themselves and their bodies. Rape Culture teaches that violation is alright. That the only people sexually assaulting and raping people are strangers.

I am a survivor.
Just a four months after my 21st birthday I was sexually assaulted by a person I thought was my friend. I was not drunk (I do not drink), I was not high (I do not do drugs), I was not dressed in a provocative manner (not that it matters). I was merely asleep at the wrong place at the wrong time. I said NO but an hour later he resumed and I pretended to be asleep because I was scared of the worse outcome (death). It took me months to tell my best friend, I still haven’t told my parents, and I do not plan on going to the police. However, I am putting my experience out here now.
The amount of emotional and mental damage I suffered still hasn’t gone away. I suffer from disassociation, depression, self blame, fear, and (according to my past boyfriends) trust issues. Have I harmed my body? No. Have I considered hurting myself or dying? Yes. Will I actually hurt myself? FUCK NO. Do I continue to smile on the daily even when I am suffering internally? Of course. My mental health is constantly hanging by a thread but I try to look on the bright side. I am alive. I’m not going to let depression beat me before I beat it. If we can end Rape Culture we can end the sexual assaults, rapes, and deaths of women like Lucia Perez. We can stop assholes from making statements like “Grab em’ by the pussy” an actual thing.
WE CAN PUT AN END TO BODY VIOLENCE ON ALL SEXES
First, thank you so much for sharing your story. I’d like you to know how sorry I am that this happened to you. And that you didn’t deserve it and that it wasn’t your fault. I am also a survivor of sexual violence and I’ll say that this election cycle has been hard for me as well. Seeing sexual assault being trivialized by so many as just something boys do in a locker room is incredibly painful. I’ve been fortunate to have amazing friends who remind me that I am seen, heard, and loved. I’d like to remind you of the same. If you ever need anything, please feel free to reach out.
I think that it’s a real shame that you have to mention that you weren’t drunk, high or dressed provocatively in order to show that you weren’t “asking for it”. I’m really upset by Trump suggesting that sexual assault requires attraction in order to happen or that a woman’s profession is a justification. I hope that one day we can come to the conclusion that attackers of any kind have no justification for what they do.
The most disheartening thing about this election cycle is the amount of support Trump has maintained despite his clear status as overtly terrible person. This year has revealed that there is a large group of conservatives who are even more racist, sexist, and awful than we could ever imagine. I cannot even imagine the effect that has on a survivor of sexual assault, but I can picture it being scary to say the least.
It is crazy to think you have to actually explain to people that saying “Grab Her By The Pussy” is not okay. That it is encouraging sexual assault and violence against women. It brings sexual assault into the mainstream media in not a way we would want. Rather that looking at is as a grave problem, the support, easy acceptance, and constant use of this type of poisonous rhetoric is an attempt to normalize it. It truly is discarding and disgusting.
