Waking up in my bed on November 9th, I didn’t have to check my Facebook to know how the election turned out. I felt around me, how everything seemed to be covered in an invisible layer of slime, including myself inside my quiet cocoon of my room. I heard in the rain hitting my window, almost as if the earth was crying.
I understand other people want tighter rules on immigration and such, but that’s not where my problem lies. My problem lies with him as a person. It lies not with his rape allegations but his threat to sue his accusers for lying. It lies with his inaction of denouncing the support from the leader of the KKK in a timely manner. It lies with his personal views of how its ok to mock someone for their mental illness.
I know that as a straight, white, middle class, female I am privileged. However, there have been times in my life where I have had to face that I am not as privileged as my male counterparts, but it has never been that obvious as that morning that I am a female. That many females are up for attack. So here I am, screaming in fear. This isn’t just for me, this is for every minority that I know. Because as I checked Facebook that morning I saw all their fears being screamed in written words.
