The lack of Asian representation in media is sooooo frustrating.
I realized that not only does American media erase Asian presence in the country; When they do insert asian characters into shows or movies it’s always light skin asians. Koreans Chinese and Japanese characters dominate the asian presence in media and film, even though there’s a larger population of south asians in the U.S. Countries like India, Philippines, Vietnam, Pakistan, and so on never get media attention or representation. If they do its negative media coverage and news stories about wars, economic problems, etc.
Many portrayals of asian characters in history are also annoyingly whitewashed. Recently shows like “Fresh of the Boat” and “Moana” have gained popularity which is nice but dare I say, not enough??? I want to see more brown asians, more fat asians, more non-fetishized asians, more funny/stupid/complexed personalitied asians in media!
Unruly Bodies 
It’s interesting how corporations that control what we view knows that if there is a majority of certain kinds of people we can assume that those people are the default of life and that’s what they do. Of course as time goes on ther will be representation of people of color in shows and movies but it’s going to be a slow one. Think about the roles black people still get like they still suck too. I want to see Donald glover as spider man or like john cho as a wizard and Idras Elba as James Bond !!! They don’t want people of color to dominate tv because then these shows wouldn’t be just a show it be an Asian show, a black show, a brown show. It would be awesome for these people to be in our media and not have to bring up their culture or race because by doing that white people will automatically make the assumpiton that it’s not for them (even thought very person color can relate shows that cast white people because we had to learn to match with personalities than appearance). Whiteness makes the ability for POC to gain media coverage very hard unless we’re robbing stores, rioting cities, bombing buildings and each other they love showing us at those times. Just know that change takes time and that country is slowing loosing the amount of white people. POC will take over and we’LOL replenish all that has been in distriction from white people.
