Another One

This week I really wanted to focus on drafting something insightful and interesting for this final blog post. However, I decided that instead of putting yet another bit of unrealistic pressure on myself, I am going to give myself the gift of just sharing my truth. And yes – that truth is undoubtedly the most popular topic this semester: being terrified, exhausted, and hopeless all at once while attempting to maintain any level of output & functionality in pandemic times.

This semester has been hard y’all. I know you get it, because we’ve been in it together, but damn. When COVID-19 hit us in early March and the Spring semester switched to full remote learning, things felt hard and a bit inconvenient but being naive helped me really carry myself through the semester. This fall has felt a lot more different. A lot more hopeless. How does one carry on when every bit of normalcy, comfort, warmth, and joy feels compromised and inaccessible? Moving through life these past 3 months has felt like being trapped in the K hole – an uncomfortable limbo of heartbreak, isolation, and fear. It’s real and it’s important to honor those feelings.

It is also important for me personally to fight with every ounce of my strength for self care and self preservation. To honor my feelings, but also do my best in honoring my commitments. I pride myself on being resilient and positive and am in a critical stage of the semester (and my professional life) where I NEED to maintain a positive attitude to keep motivation & determination up to have any level of productivity. I trust many of you are right there with me.

Join me in manifesting the peace & relaxation that is the Sleepytime tea bear. We all deserve to be that cozy and smiley and wealthy with pastries.

  1. The fall has definitely felt… different. I see you, I hear you, and I’m with you in solidarity. Here’s to pulling thru this together. Honoring raw emotions is such a critical part of that for sure.

  2. When I say this post hit, I mean it HIT. It’s inspiring to see someone feeling what they feel and sharing that with the world. I’m proud for all you’ve done and continue doing. Keep pushing, you can do it!

  3. I am here with you. The “new normal” is crushing me with every step during these final week assignments. I had no place to go where I would be in public and I felt that I would be shamed if I did not do my work, that’s how I usually get papers done sitting in commons by the windows across from Salsarita’s until commons staff kick me out at close. Last semester I got through by what may be sheer will power, or coasting on the work I did prior to getting kicked off campus for COVID. This semester was worse, maybe we can better prepare for the next one now, which will ultimately be my last. I wish my college career didn’t end on such a sour note but no one could have predicted this. I hope it gets better for you. I am sending good vibes your way.

  4. It sucks because I actually started on a high note when it came to productivity and making the best of this “New (Ab)normal”. I thought that perhaps being fully remote would help with energy preservation because under regular circumstances I’m completely burnt out post-Thanksgiving break and my will to make it across the finish line just evaporates. Spoiler alert: It didn’t. I’m just as tired and perhaps even *more* fed up because I feel like I should be faring better since I don’t have to deal with the commute back and forth from school and having to expend energy there all day. Now that I’m at home all the time, what’s my excuse for not getting shit done??? I don’t know, I don’t know, I just want this semester to be OVER so I can be left alone……until my winter course and then spring semester when I’ll be taking 17 credits, that is :’)
