Average amount of college students at most get a good 4-5 hours of sleep and I lack all 4-5 hours almost every single day. From all my stem classes, soccer, video games, and girls that don’t want me that I waste my time on I get zero sleep.
Let’s start off with school which takes up 50% of my life unfortunately. As a biology major I’m stressed out 90% of the time which will probably be the reason I go bald before my 30s. If I go bald due to the stress of school I might just drop out. I know it sounds superficial but I will literally have to start wearing wigs for men in order to be out in public.
With the little free time I have soccer and video games take up about 30% of my time. To be honest soccer stresses me out the same amount of school, but it’s the good kind of stress, you know? It’s a good way to escape from school and everything else. I also picked up basketball as a new activity, but it’s not going so great, I slightly suck. Following soccer is video games and helps me forget that I have bills to pay which is another quick escape great for the soul.
Followed with my last stresser, women. Women take up 20% of my time, split between 15% friendship and 5% romantic. As you can see my romantic life is basically at a zero, but that 5% wasted might as well be the whole 100%. I just want a girlfriend and I’m starting to think it’s impossible to get one, but I’m grateful for all the female friends I have. Hopefully one of them will fall in love with me.
This is just a quick glimpse into my nonsense of a life. Moral of the story is I apologize for sleeping in class and it won’t happen again. I’ll make sure to get a full eight hours every Sunday and Tuesday nights.
I really enjoyed reading this, it was very amusing but also relatable at the same time. With all of the other stressors in life, it is sometimes hard to pay attention in class and get the recommended amount of sleep. I attended a sleep discussion a few years back and if I remember correctly, a 20 year old should be getting around 7 hours of sleep per night. Im glad you have soccer as an outlet, I always thought sports and working out were good ways to destress. I give you so much credit for being a bio major, many of my friends are and I can definitely say that they are also stressed pretty often. I hope you get a full nights sleep more than Sunday and Tuesday nights, but it is definitely a start!
Your post is very relateable! I think a lot of the expectations placed on college students are unreasonable and unsustainable. Balancing work, school, sports and a social life is unrealistic and often if you add up the hours each expects from you, its more than the amount of hours you have in a week. I hope in the future you get more time to yourself.
This post is really interesting and relatable in so many ways. The fact that you are a bio major and still have time to do things is incredible. I see a lot of bio majors throughout the day and it seems really stressful so Props to you. You will knock it out the park. The level of stress college students go through is insane. We try to get as much sleep as possible but with the amount of work we get and then go to our jobs, its hard to find time to do anything. Get your well earned Rest. You deserve it!
This is probably one of the most relatable posts I’ve read through all of the blog posts! I think your humor really brought it into real life and made it feel even more real than I thought! I can relate with being a D1 student-athlete I feel like I’m constantly going and never have time to do anything and if I do it has to go 100% towards school! We’re in it together!
Reading this post makes me feel like I’m back in sophomore year, where I was in a very similar position. I have found STEM majors to be some of the most stressed people I have ever met, myself included. I hate that stress is always a part of life, but we all have our ways of dealing with our stress. It’s good that you have video games and sports as outlets, and I do hope that you find a way of getting more rest without over stressing yourself!
Woah.. relatable!!!!
I feel the stress of being a stem major for sure. Even if I’m not actively asleep in class I definitely find myself zoning out or having my mind elsewhere thinking about all the work I have or how I’m going to manage my time with all the things I have to do vs the things I want to do. I just try and remind myself that *hopefully* I’m not the only one feeling this way and I’m not alone. I am glad you have sports as an outlet to escape from all your stress!! And I wish you luck with your love life, of course.
I found this reading to be quite enjoying, and very relatable. As I’m a Biology major as well and the stress this major brings it’s only right to pray that I don’t go bald by 30. But I know we got this and will accomplish our goals. Once there is a balance or a routine created ; life , school , and the mental becomes so much more easier to handle. Cheat code to life in my eyes is to achieve mental peace. Good Luck!!!!
