A Note to My Partner

“When I met you (thanks Tinder), I had no idea you would become so important to me. You have taught me so many things, and helped me grow immensely in the short amount of time I have known you. And I foresee much more growth to come. Not just with myself, but with us.

I am so excited and fortunate to have you in my life, and to have the opportunity to get to know all of you. It’s easy to see your wit, and kind heart. Do I even have to mention how physically attractive you are? Ugh, and you have the sweetest and most pure soul. You have shocked my unfamiliar system with your support and care, and especially with your patience. All of those amazing things, and yet there is still more to discover. More characteristics and quirks; little details that make you uniquely who you are. I am so lucky.

You have made me feel more loved in six months than I have felt in years. I am so grateful for you, and everything that you are and do. I can only hope that I make you feel as amazing as you are.”

This note was written over a year ago. My partner and I are about to celebrate our two year anniversary in a few months. I thought posting this note and commentary was fitting for my last blog, as I would not be where I am without all of the love and support he has given me. I have suffered with my mental health severely, especially since starting school this fall. He has continuously lifted me out of the darkness and cheered me on in my times of need (which has been often). I never knew something so pure and extraordinary would come out of a dating app like Tinder.

  1. Dating apps works. You might to skim through some characters but there are some solid individuals in there. I’m happy for you that you found someone that makes you feel that way.

  2. This is so freaking cute, y’all are giving me a toothache. I met my partner on Bumble, so I can totally relate to the “holy shit this app worked” revelation. Congratulations on two years! May you have many more in the future.

  3. I feel this so much! I met my boyfriend through work only to find out that he’s best friends with my sister’s boyfriend. But, meeting him has definitely made me a better person and changed me for the better. I think it’s crazy how meeting one person can change your whole entire view on not only the world but also yourself for the positive.

Also, love that you and your partner met on a dating app and found what seems to be pure genuine love. It really shows that dating apps aren’t all bad and you can have success.

  4. your blog made me cry happy tears, i am so happy for you! it is amazing being able to have a person that you can always turn to during hard times that you trust. something that i think isn’t talked about much is the affect that mental health can have in relationships. even though in my opinion no one’s disability or mental health disorder is a burden, some people don’t hold that sentiment. and even for people who do hold that sentiment, it can still be difficult to determine ways of and practice supporting someone with a mental health disorder in the ways they need. i’m glad you were able to find support and love with your partner !!

  5. Dating apps get so looked down upon, but lets be real, how else are we gonna meet people? Bar hook ups are disgusting…no offense and no one looks for their soul mate in church camp (ok, ONE of y’all did, I wont judge).

I have met wonderful friends through tinder and I don’t regret a thing. We shared great laughs, food, and moments. I couldn’t help but be attracted to this posting – seeing you type about your partner got me in the mood for the feels 🥲. Happy for y’all and I wish y’all many more additional years of happiness!

  6. My boyfriend makes my mental health worse sometimes because we both have a lot of trauma to work through and I wish my relationship could be like yours. It seems so healthy and wholesome. It is so amazing that you have found someone who will better you and someone you can trust with every flaw. I am so glad to hear that dating apps can work because I have heard too many horror stories. I wish you the best in your relationship and happy 2 years!

    • My partner has his own trauma and healing to do as well- don’t get me wrong. I am not perfect, nor is he. It takes lots of patience on both ends (had to work to get there bc I’ve never been patient lol) and LOTS of communication. If you ever do something you know is a trauma response, whenever you feel ready- talk about it. Talk about how you reacted, and how you can react differently in the future. Sometimes I have to pause and react in my head to make sure it is “rational” before I react out loud if that makes sense. Sorry to ramble and give you unsolicited advice ,:D I wish you the best in your relationship as well and appreciate your comment ❤

  7. That is super sweet! I wish you and your partner a happy holidays and relationship. Im glad that you found your other half through a dating app as Ive seen so many horror stories coming from them.
