Living with the constant fear of having a serious illness really takes a toll on you. I’ll never forget that one day last year when I got a headache out of the blue – something that rarely happened to me. Instead of brushing it off, I made the mistake of Googling my symptoms, and the search results made me think I had a brain tumor. Cue a major anxiety attack that kicked off my struggle with hypochondria.
In the weeks that followed, I became hyper-aware of every little sensation in my body. I went down a rabbit hole of health websites, learning way more about the human body than I ever intended. If something felt even slightly off, I’d convince myself I had some serious illness, leading to many sleepless nights filled with panic attacks. But over the next few months, things slowly got better. I’m happy to say that I’ve moved past that phase of hypochondria.

Driven by a strong reaction to observed symptoms, your path through hypochondria resulted in an research rampage. The steady development over the following months is encouraging, though. Hearing that you’ve outgrown that stage of hypochondria is comforting. The incident serves as a reminder of the effects of health anxiety and the significance of coping with and overcoming it.
While I dont have hypochondria and cant fully understand what that means I am someone who has been sick for a large portion of my childhood. With that I often become hyper vigilant at the smallest of things in fear they will make me sick again. When I do my solution is to take every medication under the sun and sleep till I feel as though everything has been killed off. The paranoia that must come with being a hypochondriac isnt for the faint of heart especially in a country with such extreme end of the spectrum when it comes to healthcare. Im sorry that your life experiences have caused you stress and while dont know much about treatment for it googling symptoms has only ever given me anxiety, not googling them can also have the same effect so i suggest calling a health professional when you feel like thats what you want to do. Even if you dont actually go and see them they can over some surface-level information that may potentially bring reassurance
