My body hates me
This thought… plagues me
Day in, Day out.
When the sun comes and the birds begin to sing
The pain begins…
Or so you would think.
The pain never left you see
It is endless
It never goes away
The pain has been there and never leaves
A constant companion…..I HATE it.
So, I pretend
I smile
I laugh
I say “it’s not that bad today”
When in reality I want to scream
PLEASE TAKE THIS PAIN AWAY!
You can’t though, nobody can…My constant companion never leaves
So, I will go on with my day
Pretending to be, who people see
While internal fighting, the body given to me
My body hates me
I know it does
Why else would something, I fight so hard to help cause the most pain I’ve ever felt
My body hates me, and therefore feels like the enemy
This poem was really beautiful, I love how you really made your internal thoughts draw out a clear image on the page(or screen). I love how you showed a big contrast between how you feel about the pain that you are feeling, versus the way you have to present yourself to outside perspectives
I really love this poem because, as someone who is plus-size, I think there’s a kind of pain that comes with living in a body that you feel like you’re constantly fighting against. It’s not just about how you look, but how you feel in your own skin and how exhausting it can be to carry those feelings every single day. Sometimes, you get so used to pretending you’re okay that people don’t even realize how much you’re struggling internally. You learn to smile, laugh, and go about your day, even when you’re fighting battles that nobody else can see. What really stands out to me is the line about pretending to be who people see while internally fighting the body you were given. That hits hard because people often make assumptions about you based on your appearance without ever considering your relationship with your own body. I think what makes this poem so powerful is how honest it is about that struggle. It’s heartbreaking to feel like your own body is your enemy when it’s the one thing you can never escape. I just wish more people understood that learning to love yourself isn’t always as simple as looking in the mirror and deciding to be confident. Sometimes, it’s just trying to make peace with yourself one day at a time.
