A Bra That Fits!

When I went over to my friend’s house this afternoon, the first thing she said to me was “help me measure myself!” No, she’s not on some sort of diet or fitness regimen. She was trying to figure out her real bra size from this fit guide.

I was curious to see if I have been wearing the wrong size all along, and my suspicions were correct. Instead of the 38C I thought I was, I ended up being a 32J (32GG in UK sizes)!

I have yet to see if this new size is valid or not since only a few handful of stores carry sizes DD and up (have you ever heard of a J cup? I hadn’t until today!). When I finally take a trip down to Nordstrom to try on a couple (very expensive, ugh) bras in this size, I’ll report back to you, but I figured I’d leave the guide here for you all. The results may shock you!

The guide also provides information about how to determine if you have a wide or narrow breast root, if your breasts are shallow or projected, or if they are fuller on the top or bottom. After you have figured out what shape your breasts are, the guide provides a list of stores and bra models that fit best for your breast shape. I found it to be an extremely helpful read.

Who, me? Disabled?

At the beginning of this class’ section on disability studies, we created a list of a variety of disabilities that may or may not be recognized by society. We listed the ones most people think of, like physical and mental disabilities, but when we began talking about “invisible” disabilities, something struck a chord in me.

I Am My Hair.

How I feel with my new hair.

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries or the way she combs her hair.” –Audrey Hepburn

Although these words spoken by one of the most beautiful women in history are all nice and feel-good-y, modern-day society disagrees wholeheartedly. That being said, my apprehension and hesitance to cut my hair short wasn’t exactly atypical. Continue reading

I Know This Pretty (Slutty) Rave Girl…

Jamming onstage to Doctor P during Stacked: Miami

Jamming onstage to Doctor P during Stacked: Miami. RIP blue hair.

If you’ve ever heard me talk about my musical interests, you’ll know that I’m a massive basshead. I love everything about the Electronic Dance Music community, from the art of making heartfelt kandi bracelets and the secret handshake used to trade them, to the PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect) motto, the flow arts (hula hoop dancing, poi, and flow wand) performances during a show, the ability to walk up to anyone and potentially make a new best friend, to the infectious energy radiating from the crowd. Being introduced to the EDM scene allowed me to express myself with reckless abandon, whether it be through dance, hooping, kandi-making, or interesting costume-like getups. But there’s one thing I don’t love about this community- the amount of slut shaming in response to girls wearing rave outfits that attempt to be both cute and comfortable.

Do you wanna know how I got these scars?

Scarification, the process of creating raised designs on the body by cutting, branding, burning, or freezing the skin, is a body modification practice widely unheard of (compared to the more popular practices such as piercing and tattooing) in the Western world. Its practice in the U.S., originally adopted by the gay and lesbian subcultures of mid-1980s San Francisco, was revived by the neotribal movement of the early 1990s in an attempt to create a more “authentic” aesthetic while also romanticizing exoticism.
