OPM

I consider myself a fan of Japanese animation and the latest popular anime that I am into is called One Punch Man. It is about a man’s quest to become a hero for “fun”. His name is Saitama  He is a hero in his spare time and he turns out to be the strongest hero in the world. So much so that he becomes bored of being a hero. There is a lack luster of the fun that he initially searched for because he is too strong. He defeats almost all the enemies that he has faced in ONE punch. He has such an aloof personality and he is easy going. He barely cares about anything except his dinner and his has such a calm personality while all the other heroes around him are vibrant and prepared for any kind of issues.

Saitama is a bald ordinary looking man with a thin, but well-built physique and of average height and weight. He claims to have lost all of his hair suddenly and prematurely as a result of the toll taken on his body by his intense hero training.

Saitama is usually deliberately drawn in a simpler style than all the other characters, with an elliptical shaped head and only a simple mouth and eyes. When drawn in a more serious style with more detail.

He gained the attention of the public and got a follower, Genos, who is constantly reaching to become stronger and to be better. he follows Saitama’s every word even when Saitama tells him to “get lost”. Genos becomes Saitama’s apprentice and he asks Saitama “How did you get this strong” and the secret comes out. Saitama tells him “100 PUSH-UPS, 100 SIT-UPS, 100 SQUATS, 10 KM RUNNING” and said that he does it everyday.

I think that it is really impressive how the show goes against the grain in a kind of way. The strongest able body human in the show is drawn as a skinny bald man who is more comical and not as serious. He wants to do it for fun. The idea that people’s bodies are different and after all these exercise methods that he has done his body is still slim and slender. The show also show interesting views public opinion of bodies and praises all types of bodies. I was impressed with that alternative form of body representation in media.

I want to stay the same forever

After hearing stories about people who got in a bad accident, were physically assaulted, or some event happened that caused them to never be the same again the mind automatically thinks “wow I gotta watch out for this to make sure it never happens to me”. Over the week I was on tumblr and there was a video of this lady who was paraplegic and she explained how she got that way. That made me realize that there is really no one in line asking the world to lose their limbs or to lose their bodily functions. it is the just the situation that they are in. Yeah there are things that we can do to continue to be safe and to keep ourselves out of harm’s way but there are women who have acid thrown in their face which sometimes renders them “disabled” and they were being as safe as possible. it was just things in life that affected them negatively

Advice Column

What actually influenced my writing this morning was a Men’s Health magazine that was left on my coffee table by one of my friends. And of course as curiosity will sometimes have its way with me I began to read. I thought, “this is where the secret to getting my abs right may be”.

Skimming through I see the advice column with weird questions. The ones that society kinda expects no one to ask or for you to get through different clues. Things like “How do I ask this girl out?” or “when is the best time to get my anus bleached?” lined the pages of this wonderful magazine. The answers to these questions were too political and inapplicable to all types of bodies. So I answered them

  1. I have trouble holding in my “gas” in when I go on first dates because I just get so nervous. How can I prevent this from happening? I haven’t really tried anything and I am open to suggestions”

Pre-date poops dude, flush everything out of your system and take one of those “gas x” pills and you will be set. And if you’re a confident guy and your body is giving you issues during the date. Let one loose and blame it on how nervous you are and laugh it off. They probably let on go before you guys met up

  2. How many dates should I wait to have sex? will they stay after a one night stand?

You just gotta play it safe, speedy. Its no specific number. You can have sex on the first date or on the 81th date. If they were gonna leave, they’d leave

  3. How can I make my body like a model?
Its really nearly impossible. Our bodies are all different. Some people can even sleep at the gym and they won’t have the chiseled abs you seen in the magazines. You gotta love yourself already and make the changes you want according to your own body. If you have a specific body type goal in mind you’re just setting yourself up to be crush when natural gym isnt getting you there

Whose Body is it?

Way back in high school, I had a friend who was a grade ahead of me. I would not say we were best friends but we were close. He was a popular person that lit up a room with fun and good vibes whenever he entered. As we grew older we saw less and less of each other. Until an exact month before I began college I saw him at target while he was at work and we talked for a long time. He promised me that he would talk to his employer and see about getting me a job and he did. He did talk to his employer and continuously tried to contact me about coming for a job but I already had one and I snobbed him because I just was not that interested at the time. Continue reading

Motorcycle Clubs, Gangs, Tribes and Tattoos

After concise and careful thought, we can call this show one of the greatest shows to ever grace cable television. Sons Of Anarchy, a show praised (by yours truly) for its barbaric violence and a shakespearian plot reminded me of some of our discussions in class. With hopes that my clear publicizing will coax some of you into watching the show I will try not to spoil the plot while trying to link it to our class discussion. You see the man above with the “reaper” tattoo on his back, and his motorcycle club above and the charter location below? That is a type of identification for the people in that show and in reality for many people in motorcycle clubs, gangs etc. Whenever there was a gang retaliation to an event in that show, the current leader would ask to “Check the ink”. The “ink” is so serious to them in this show that once a person leaves the club, they have to either cut the skin with the tattoos of the club off or blacken it out with a blow torch.

Culturally, paradigms about the body fluctuate. In some tribes in Africa, people get tribal marks in forms of tattoos and scars on their face, their arms, legs and other body parts and to this tells where they are from. The body is used as a sort of identification card. The spectrum that body art is viewed is amazing. A woman  struck a conversation with me in a cafe a couple of weeks ago and she had 3 very tiny tattoos on her left hand. I asked “What are those about?” She said “I got them because I was just feeling a little crazy, they don’t really mean anything but I have to hide them when I visit my parents”. I realized she viewed her body differently than the Sons Of Anarchy. They were overly proud and obnoxious of their identity through their body (which is not a bad thing), not only did they have the “reaper” tattoos they got jackets, baby clothing, furniture and all sorts of “reaper” paraphernalia. They made it a whole thing!  It was something they sported proudly because it proved who they were and proved they belong to something. Similar to some other cultures that having body art. No one gets 3 deep permanent cuts on their cheek if they do not want people to see it.

We can see how body art is juxtaposed in cultures some are really proud and must show it off while other cultures it is “not a thing meant for everyone to see”
