I hope you are doing well and are healthy during this pandemic. No seriously, I do. Considering you are still coming into stores with your mask below your nose or even only covering your chin, I truly truly hope you are healthy. Not for your sake, for mine. Now before you take offense, let me offer this: I already know you don’t care about My well being, seeing as you are still coming into my store or into my restaurant. I promise, Sunday brunch with the girls is Not socially distancing, even if it Is outside.
Cases are climbing, and whether you realize this or not, I Need to work to live. I’m sorry you “need to get out of the house”, but go to the goddamn park instead. While I was here slaving away at work, You were here in my personal space and standing Way too close for me to feel safe.
On July 4th? I could tell you were ordering for your BBQ party. Why didn’t your family members call you out and decide not to show up? Because you are part of a toxic and Very selfish community. Please do your part and stay home. You can complain about being tired of being in quarantine, but it is only going to last That much longer if you keep putting more and more people at risk. Just because the people around you are acting as everything is normal doesn’t make it true. Dig deep. Find some empathy for others and try to protect yourself as well as all of us that are forced to work during this time.
I promise you, every time a waiter says “thank you for coming in tonight” they do not mean a word. Not saying they did before the quarantine, but especially now, I promise we are planning your death and cursing at you under our breath. I do not enjoy your presence here and wish you just got take out and stayed at home. If you Really want to support those of us literally risking our lives to Serve you, tip us. And tip us well! I don’t mean 15 or 20%. More. Help your fellow person, its the least you can do considering you probably only wore your mask to get in the door and never after when you are ordering.
Please do better. I am tired and exhausted of worrying about my health because Your head is up your own ass.
Love,
A person working 3 jobs during the pandemic
Oof. As a person who is not an essential worker, I am pulling for you. Far too many people are acting as if there is not a pandemic outside, and that’s making it worse. I miss the days in march and april (conveniently before the world found out that the virus supposedly affected people of color more) where people would stay their asses in the damn house. Essential workers are not disposable, they are literally working to survive in this messed up country and the pretzel bites at greene turtle are NOT worth their lives. I wish I could broadcast this blog post all over the country along with the covid cases chart so people could realize that this is not slowing down and their actions have very severe consequences.
I feel this. I work at a library (not a librarian) and the customers are usually pretty awesome. There are of course the terrible ones but the good ones more than made up for those people. Right now it’s so sweet seeing the thankful notes or messages customers leave. Especially from the kids! However, the pandemic has definitely lowered my patience and tolerance for those who can’t act like a decent human being. It’s so frustrating seeing some of the tantrums people have. I’ve seen librarians get yelled at for curbside not being open. When the customer is sometimes easily 5 plus minutes early. The scariest/ craziest moment was when a customer tried prying open the doors to walk in. There were signs everywhere that we were closed. The door was blocked off and the automatic doors were off. And this guy thought he could just walk in and browse. It was mind-boggling. I can excuse everything up until the decision to pry open the doors. Who does that??? Thank you for the work you are doing as an essential worker. I’m sorry people can be idiots. I hope you have a least one customer that makes your day.
Big oof oh my goodness I feel this. And I can’t help but identify with both sides. The “sender” and the reader. I work in fast food and I began that work during the quarantine because I needed a source of income to survive but emotionally and physically. So since July, I’ve been putting myself in a risky position by serving customers who rarely follow mask protocol. /Also/ we haven’t been allowed to refuse service in the name of our safety. Because the customer is always right! And right now that so fucking scary because of this second wave hahaha…
But I also feel like the customer. I feel shame I probably deserve to feel because I didn’t stay no to multiple “socially distant” baby showers…my own sister’s included. It was the most I felt at risk and involved in creating a problem, but I also have bad fomo and anxiety about disappointing my mother… We fought a lot during the quarantine. That’s semi-irrelevant.
Anyway I feel like shit as both the reader and “sender” but like in a good way. Thank you for writing this because IT’S IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE THESE DANGEROUS BEHAVIORS AND ALSO OWN UP TO YOUR MISTAKES [this last part is for me :'(]!
With fall break (the fucked up holiday, you know what I mean) and the holidays approaching, I find this post extremely relevant. First off, thank you. Thank you for the work you’re doing, if no one has told you today, “I appreciate you”.
The improper usage of masks, no respect for physical distancing, and resurgence in gatherings (no matter how small) get on my fucking nerves. My own family is even doing it; luckily, I have the option to shame them and stay separated, stay safe.
Back in March, thirty thousand new cases in a day was considered a bad day, yesterday we had 159,121. The country has chosen to prioritize the holidays, to prioritize capitalism. We should be shut down right now, on complete lock down; stricter than the original ones. Yet here we are, spreading germs as the colonizers did, singing our merry tunes, continuing to turn away as thousands die.
Fuck this America.
