The world we live in is so unfair it’s really unbelievable. Starting with our healthcare, women are still fighting over their own reproductive rights and there’s people who can’t afford medicine they need to survive. These are just two examples of how messed up the system is. Why isn’t insulin free? Why isn’t chemotherapy free? Why do we have to pay ridiculous amounts of money for therapy? None of it really makes sense because other countries are able to make it work why aren’t we able to. I just feel like there are so many missing pieces because it really doesn’t make sense to me. Do you know how much an ambulance costs? A “basic life support transport” costs $500 and only goes up from there. I constantly question if they (on both sides) genuinely care about us or if they just pretend like they do.
I really want to highlight the cost of therapy because mental health is a big deal that is now finally getting the attention it needs. Mental health is finally gaining traction and it’s important for people to have an outlet. Therapy is an essential to someone who doesn’t even struggle with mental health. It’s important to have an unbiased voice coming from a non judgmental place. All coming back to the cost. It costs about $40+ an hour for therapy and to make matters worse insurance most likely won’t ever fully cover therapy. I feel like the system is rigged and made for us to never win.
Hi, I could really feel your passion and frustration through your word choice and I agree with you whole heartedly that our system is extremely unfair because it’s like we didn’t ask to find ourselves in these health crisis and it’s especially unfortunate for those who are unable to receive health care. I never knew that ambulance transportation costs $500 which is really crazy especially if the hospital is relatively close by. I can only imagine what the cost of medovac would be. And I also like the fact that you mentioned mental health because that is also something very prominent.
Firstly, there’s no other way to put it than you did. The healthcare system is so messed up and extremely expensive. I know it firsthand, treatment for my condition is worth thousands of dollars. While insurance covers some, the rest is out of pocket. I’m glad that mental health is also getting proper recognition but even so, treatments are so expensive that most people may just avoid it. I hope that our generation can do something to change this in the future.
Hey, there 🙂
I love your post because its so true! No one should have to struggle to pay for the medications and procedures they need to physically survive! Whether it be for cancer patients or even women seeking reproductive health the system needs work. I recently saw a tik-tok post that was talking about cervical biopsies in women. It was interesting because I learned that almost all cervical biopsies are done without any form of pain medication. The tool basically looks like a whole puncher and they just go in and grab it. The comments on the post included hundreds of women discussing how painful it was and that no meds were offered. Some even compared the pain to childbirth. Some women were able to request lidocaine injections prior while some health care workers commented they don’t even have those meds in stock for such procedures. Overall, it was deeply saddening and scary to see all these women share a collective painful experience that has not been resolved. Many of the comments regarding pain were dismissed (likely by those who have not experienced it) saying that the pain is worth it to know if you have cancer. Yes, I agree that is vital information but it’s 2021, we use pain meds, and anesthesia for a reason. If this procedure was necessary for a man, would he be sedated or given pain meds?
I felt this post on a very deep level. In the recent months, I decided that it would be best to look into options for therapy, and when I brought it to my parents, their first thought was “when looking, make sure they take our insurance.” I never even realized how expensive it would be even with insurance. It really is saddening that something a crucial as a good state of mental health has been made this expensive. Shouldn’t everyone be able to get help if needed? Why does it need to have a cost?
I totally relate to and understand this post! This past January my grandfather had a stroke and he was kept in the hospital for almost 2 months. He insisted and insisted on coming home because he was so lonely there and he really wasn’t making anymore progress there than he could have at home..
Finally he gets to leave and literally 1 day later gets a bill for eighty thousand dollars…after insurance covered their share. It absolutely baffled me to see such a poorly organized system that truly seems against anyone who needs help.
