A Reflection on the Past of a Gay Baptist

In 2011 I came out while simultaneously accepting Christ. Apparently, that is a very odd thing to do, especially on a Southern Baptist mission Trip in Lousiana. My camp counselor cried tears of joy for me, but looking back on it I think he thought I was rejecting my homosexuality, rather than affirming it. I thought I couldn’t be a good Christian if I wasn’t being honest with myself, my community, and God. So this decision made perfect sense to me at the time, and I stand by that, even though I don’t attend church much anymore (for many reasons that do not pertain to this discussion). Continue reading

Why this Election Matters to Me?

Like many others, I am writing about the United States 2016 President Elect and how this event has impacted me and those around me.

On Tuesday morning, November 8th, 2016, I woke up for my 10:00am class feeling confident and proud that that day would be the day that the United States of America would have their first woman President.

I had no doubt in my mind that my country would vote for the candidate that is not a racist, sexist, misogynistic, and perverted asshole. Excuse my language, but to be very honest, I can not think of any other “appropriate” word to describe the man who is now our President Elect. Continue reading

what I’m NOT thankful for

I’m not thankful for all the lives that had to be raped, diseased spread and killed for this country to be present.

I’m not thankful for the cultures and traditions that have been wiped out so that it be exchanged with sports and consuming dead animals.

i’m not thankful for all the wars we’ve created because of greed and fear from white supremacy.

I’m not thankful to be human sometimes.

I’m not thankful that i have to shut up so i can let people live comfortably and not ethically.

I’m not thankful for all the marginalized people have to be marginalized.

I’m not thankful for specieism.

I’m not thankful for a gap in peoples conscience.

I’m not thankful for time.

I’m not thankful for the sun that burns my skin and dries my lips  because we’ve killed the ozone layer.

I’m not thankful for all man made constructions

But I’m thankful I’m thankful for living this life.

(As a spiritual person I’m giving thanks for my life everyday, but there deserves a space where i can express what I’m not thankful FOR in life… (you know, duality also a gemini). It’s okay to pessimistic sometimes and feel hopeless of humanity but I’ve came to a conclusion that humans are like sheep we like to follow the crowd and that if are following beliefs and ideologies that don’t just benefit us but other species we could live in much less harm)

DON’T BE A FOLLOWER BE A LEADER !!!

A for effort?

My brother and I were driving to school on Friday last week and on the radio they were talking about Obesity. Obesity is a huge problem in the United States of America. More than one-third (35.7 percent) of adults are considered to be obese. More than 1 in 20 (6.3 percent) have extreme obesity. Almost 3 in 4 men (74 percent) are considered to be overweight or obese. These are just numbers and there is more to it than that. But we cannot ignore the amount of health problems that comes with obesity.

So apparently right now some companies are trying things out to reduce the level of obesity in America. I heard them talk on the radio about how companies are considering taxing and also reducing the sugar quantity in all these soft drinks or beverages, in order to get people not to buy it as much and also drop a couple of pounds.

In my opinion, while these sound like interesting methods to cut down the obesity level in America, I just don’t think they would really be effective. Like how much tax are you really going to be allowed to put on something like soda to get people who really want it not to buy it? Maybe reducing the sugar quantity might help, but I feel as though a lot of people might be angered by this.

Kanye West: Mental Illness is Real

Kanye West: Mental Illness is Real

We all know one of the current hot topic at the moment is Kanye West and his mental breakdown. It all started recently during Kanye’s concert for his tour, when he started ranting about different things like his support for Donald Trump, his anger towards Beyoncé’s performance at the VMA for her “formation” song which is based on the Black Panthers theme. He also mentioned Jay-Z and said “don’t send your people for me” referring to the whole illuminati thing, and also how people have been lied to by the media and the radio. A lot of videos have been circulating on twitter showing Kanye really strange and concerning behavior. And a lot of people have been reacting to this, and many people seem to be angry about this. Queer Time in Donald Trump’s Amerikka

Queer Time in Donald Trump’s Amerikka

There have been interesting parallels between our class discussions around queer crip time and my current life. This has only become more obvious post election as I scramble to rework my five-year plan. I am not sure how much to share because while I am a very open person there are some aspects of my life that I prefer to keep private.

Just Be Understanding….

I am not just a pretty face. I am so much more. I am not the girl that has everything, and is so spoiled. I suffer with my own issues, which sometimes bring me to tears, because I don’t know what to do. My dad use to say I wasn’t “trying” hard enough… But I was. School has always been so hard for me. And at a young age I was diagnosed with so many learning disabilities. It has been so hard getting through school, it is such a challenge, and sometimes it feels unbearable. When I go to get assistance sometimes it feels like the help is not enough. Extra time is not enough sometimes. I have requested plenty of times to receive class notes and the notes are never consistent. What help is that? UGH! I don’t even want to mention about venting about my situation. OMG!!! I try to tell my friends, they say stuff like I am pretending, or I am not trying hard enough. I may not be physically disabled, but learning disabilities are very serious, and shouldn’t be taken lightly. It is a constant struggle. I believe that no one takes people who suffer with learning disabilities seriously, they don’t know all we go through, and the sleepless nights. If you know someone with a learning disability don’t say they are being lazy or dramatic, try to understand. Continue reading

No one knows your body like you do

For the past seven to eight years I have been dealing with chronic lower back pain. Though this has been an ongoing epidemic in my life for a long time I have never viewed myself as disabled. About a year or so after the pain started I was at my doctor’s office to get a physical done so that I could continue swimming for my high school team. I mentioned to my doctor that I was having pretty intense pain in my lower back and wasn’t exactly sure what was causing it. Without doing any type of further examination he simply suggested that I “work on my posture.” Years go by and the pain increases as well as others starting to notice more and more that I am in pain. I was stretching and slouching more at work and laying on a heating pad more often at home. I am thankful that I have an unreasonably high pain tolerance otherwise the pain I was experiencing would have had a much more negative effect on me and my life. Finally, my mom made me another doctor’s appointment, without my knowledge, and the doctor suggested that I have x-rays done on my back. After the x-rays it turns out that I have scoliosis in my lower back and that has been the cause of my pain. The doctor then suggested that I should try out physical therapy to help with the pain, which I have been doing and has been helping. When I found out that I have scoliosis I was extremely frustrated by this because it is something that I could’ve been working on if the first doctor would’ve taken the time to help me and not just brush off the issue. This has been a lesson for me that people, including medical professionals, can all be guilty of not paying attention to a problem in someone else’s life if it is not physically visible to them and that I need to not let myself be dismissed so easily. It is my body and no one knows better than myself the difference between needing actual medical assistance and simply “working on my posture.”
