Disability is an interesting subject when one gets truly down to it. What is considered a disability and what is not also varies. Mental disabilities, physical disabilities, these are both types, but what about when there is a confluence of two of three types all at once?
I call that, when I am referring to my own situation, being trans.
What makes a person disabled? Continue reading

I never knew that one’s skin could tell so many stories until I realized that the most common questions I get are about my skin. Continue reading
What actually influenced my writing this morning was a Men’s Health magazine that was left on my coffee table by one of my friends. And of course as curiosity will sometimes have its way with me I began to read. I thought, “this is where the secret to getting my abs right may be”.
Skimming through I see the advice column with weird questions. The ones that society kinda expects no one to ask or for you to get through different clues. Things like “How do I ask this girl out?” or “when is the best time to get my anus bleached?” lined the pages of this wonderful magazine. The answers to these questions were too political and inapplicable to all types of bodies. So I answered them
Pre-date poops dude, flush everything out of your system and take one of those “gas x” pills and you will be set. And if you’re a confident guy and your body is giving you issues during the date. Let one loose and blame it on how nervous you are and laugh it off. They probably let on go before you guys met up
You just gotta play it safe, speedy. Its no specific number. You can have sex on the first date or on the 81th date. If they were gonna leave, they’d leave
A disability is defined as, “a physical or mental condition that limits a person’s movements, senses, or activities.” I’m hesitant to call my anxiety disorder a disability but I can’t help but to think of this definition. Continue reading
Way back in high school, I had a friend who was a grade ahead of me. I would not say we were best friends but we were close. He was a popular person that lit up a room with fun and good vibes whenever he entered. As we grew older we saw less and less of each other. Until an exact month before I began college I saw him at target while he was at work and we talked for a long time. He promised me that he would talk to his employer and see about getting me a job and he did. He did talk to his employer and continuously tried to contact me about coming for a job but I already had one and I snobbed him because I just was not that interested at the time. Continue reading

Stress-induced picking of the skin, also known as Dermatillomania, can be quite the self-conscious setback in life for those suffering, and also pretty unattractive for those who come across anyone who lives with it. Continue reading
Remember when we took those tests where we would have to bubble in what we were; White, Black, Asian, Native American, Hispanic/Latino, Pacific Islander, etc.? Well, not anymore.
Earlier this week I had to get fingerprinted for some community service that I was going to be doing. When they asked me to identify myself, I put Hispanic/Latino and White since I’m mixed. When I went to get the actual prints, the lady asked me to check if all of my information was correct in the system. I looked at the screen and noticed that she only selected White. I told her that I was mixed, and she said, “well, our system doesn’t really have that as an option. I had to select White otherwise you would be listed as unknown”. I asked her what she meant by that, and she said that the system only identified people as 4 things: White, Black, Asian, and unknown. At this point I was so confused. Was everything that I ever thought about myself a lie?
I went home and did some research, and it turns out that Hispanic/Latino is more of a culture than an actual race. Now, instead of having our own category, we are now going to be lumped into another – one that fits us the best by the color of our skin. After coming to understand that this is what it’s going to be like, I felt like I had lost my sense of identity; I never thought that a single phrase – “well, that would just make you unknown in the system” – could affect me so much. I never thought that my skin tone would feel like the only thing that defined me. I felt like I was an alien, and to be quite honest I was kind of offended by this, because I was taught all throughout all my years that Hispanic/Latino was a race; and now all of a sudden someone was going to strip me of everything that I ever thought and believed, and tell me that I am technically unknown in the system, and to make things easier she was just going to enter me as White. Although I am half White, I don’t like the fact that I feel like I am in a way “disowning” my dad’s side. I just wish that I could have been better educated in the past, that way I wouldn’t have to feel so confused as an adult.
